OXFORD — J.R. “Bob” Owen Jr., 92, of Oxford, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–North Mississippi in Oxford. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11a.m. at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Barksdale and the Rev. Bob Whiteside officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at the New Albany City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday at 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in New Albany, he was retired from Rebel Press where he managed the printing department. He previously worked for the New Albany Gazette as a linotype operator and was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church. He raised sheep and border collies and competed in sheep dog trials and was a salesman of Buck Stoves. He greatly adored his wife, Martha Mae Moore, whom he lost in 1987. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a naval aviator.

He is survived by his daughter, Martha Lynne Owen of Windham, Maine; son, James Robert Owen, III of Dallas, Texas; sister, Dellynne Catching of Lakeland, Florida; brother, Joseph David Owen of Lakeland, Florida; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

In honor of Owen’s service to our country, the flag of the United States Navy will be flown at Waller Funeral Home.
