Minnie V. Bishop

NEW ALBANY — Minnie V. “Jennie” Bishop, 98, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at her home in New Albany. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. David Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Philadelphia Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening from 4-6 at Waller Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Blue Mountain, she was retired from Golden Years Nursing Home where she worked as a nurse’s aide. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and also attended the church where her brother pastored. She was a devoted daughter who loved her family and took wonderful care of her parents in their later years. She loved to garden, canning vegetables for the winter, and was a great cook, making the best homemade biscuits.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert E. Bishop; four sisters, Inez Lawson, Irene Williams, Nellie Grose and Joyce Williams and four brothers, Jim, William, Leroy and Edward Bishop.

Survivors include her daughter, Sarah B. Pierce of New Albany; four sisters, Beulah Bishop and Kathleen Grose, both of New Albany, Clara Goolsby and Frances Cook, both of Oxford; two brothers, George Bishop and Bro. David Bishop, both of Oxford, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
