Two charged with robbery

An Oxford man and woman were arrested Thursday for allegedly trying to rob a man on the side of the road.

According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, a woman flagged down a car on Highway 7 near Industrial Park Road. A man stopped to see what was wrong. At that time, another man came out and grabbed the alleged victim by the arm and started to rummage through the man’s pockets. After finding nothing, the couple left. They did not have a weapon and no one was hurt.

Charged were Mac Allen Holland, 30 and Amanda McCoy, 30, both of Oxford. They were charged with attempted robbery. They were taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where they are awaiting their first-appearance bond hearing.

Officers investigated eight wrecks, issued 21 tickets and made 19 arrests on the following charges:

Officers investigated three wrecks, issued a ticket for speeding, made one arrest for public drunkenness and fake ID and investigated the following reports:

Deputies investigated one wreck and made five arrests on the following charges:

— Simple assault

— Burglary of a dwelling (indictment warrant)

— Two for attempted robbery (See above)

— Commercial burglary (indictment warrant)

Oxford Fire Department

Firefighters responded to the following calls:

— Alarm at 9:38 p.m. at the Kappa Kappa Gamma house on campus; no fire

— Resident cooking set off a smoke detector at 6:29 p.m. at The Quarter Condos; no fire

— Smoke detector malfunction at 11:22 p.m. at St. Anthony Hall; no fire

— Air conditioning unit shorting out caused smoke in the house, setting off an alarm at 12:28 this morning at the Phi Kappa Psi house on campus; no fire

Lafayette County Fire

Firefighters responded to a false alarm at 6:32 p.m. at 2206 Long Spur Pointe.

County EMS

Seventeen EMS calls were reported in the county.
