Police are still searching for a man who allegedly stole a car from Chicago and jumped from a stolen vehicle in Abbeville earlier this morning.

According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, at about 1 a.m., a sheriff’s deputy saw a car traveling slowly and swerving on Highway 7 in Abbeville. When the deputy attempted to pull the car over, the driver went off the side of the road and parked the car before jumping out and running into the woods.

Deputies followed but soon lost him in the dark brush.

The vehicle had been reported stolen from Chicago. Investigators believe the driver stole the vehicle in Chicago and may be looking for a way back there.
