Gladys Beene Ward

Gladys Beene Ward, 82, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at her home in Oxford. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Barksdale and the Rev. Pat Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Waller Funeral Home today from 5- 7 p.m. and prior to the service from 10 a.m. until service time in the fellowship hall of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Paris, Mississippi, she lived most of her life in Oxford where many knew her as “Mo.” People knew her from her daily walks around the Square and from her years as the candy lady at Hallmark. She was a charter member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, sang in the choir and made coffee every week for the Quilters.

Her favorite jobs included being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Horace Ward, her son, Steve Ward, her sister, Inez Langford and her brother, Charles Beene. 

She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Grace of New Albany, Cathy Stewart of Oxford, and LynAnn Lawrence of Oxford; one brother, David Beene of Olive Branch; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
