John R. Pitts, 62, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Oakland Cemetery in Oakland with Bro. Jimmy Hood officiating.

Born in Big Springs, Texas, he was a self-employed Satellite Technician and a member of Satellite Broadcasters of America. He was a devoted husband and family man who loved life, his friends and helping others. He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering on vehicles, NASCAR and was an avid football fan.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Carter Pitts of Oakland; daughter, Jennifer Gilbreath of Hamilton, Alabama; mother, Madlen Roberts Pitts of Oakland; sister, Sherry Laredo of New Orleans, Louisiana; two grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
