DECATUR, Ill. — Robert Spencer Carothers Sr., 65, of Decatur, formerly of Oxford, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, in Decatur. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Solid Rock Full Gospel Church. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Oxford, he was a laborer and worked for Air-King in Decatur.

Along with his mother, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Goodrich; infant sister, Alice Carothers and granddaughter, Taja MayLynn Taylor.

He is survived by his wife Gayla L. Kingsley of Decatur; children, Dashika Sparks, Octavia Sparks and Robert S. Carothers Jr., all of Decatur, Timothy Smith, Tommy Smith, Joseph Smith and Aretha Smith, all of Alabama; father, James Carothers of Oxford; brothers, Dennis Houston of Bolingbrook, Illinois, James Carothers and Ralph Carothers, both of Decatur, Karl Carothers of Colorado, and Emmanuel Carothers of Oxford; sisters, Regina Carothers and Debra Carothers, both of Decatur, Brenda Carothers-Redmond and Jannie Dell Carothers, both of Oxford; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
