MEMPHIS — Roy Rex Hardwick III, 66, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Como United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phillip Dearman officiating. Interment will be in Free Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until service time at the church. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Memphis, he had lived in the Harmontown area since 1974. He was a retired construction superintendent with Patton Taylor Enterprises. Having joined the Harmontown Volunteer Fire Department in the 70s, his life revolved around the fire department and saving lives. He founded the Lafayette County Emergency Medical Responders and was president of that organization. He was a board member of the Lafayette County Fire Board and was the District Chief of District 1, which included Harmontown. Continuing his service to the community, he was very involved in community activities including fundraising events. He was a member of Como United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda H. Hardwick of Harmontown; a son, Hagan Hardwick of Oakland, Tennessee; a daughter, Jennifer Hawkins of Bartlett, Tennessee; his mother, Jane Hardwick of Oakland, Tennessee; a sister, Ann H. Miller of Oakland, Tennessee; a brother, George Hardwick of Bartlett, Tennessee; a grandson and three granddaughters.
