One killed, another injured in evening wreck

A Sardis woman was killed Monday evening after her car collided with another vehicle on County Road 1032 near the Industrial Park.

LaToya “Toya” Wilbourn, 26, was traveling on County Road 1032 Monday at about 5:30 p.m. toward the Max D. Hipp Lafayette County Industrial Park when she and another vehicle crashed in between the two entrances to the Northpointe subdivision for unknown reason.

The wreck is under investigation by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department who did not release information about the wreck this morning.

Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy pronounced Wilbourn dead at the scene.

Wilbourn worked at the Olin-Winchester plant as an adjuster. It was unknown whether she was going into work at the time of the wreck.

The driver of the second vehicle, whose name has not yet been released, suffered serious injuries was flown from the wreck site via medical helicopter to The Med in Memphis. Their condition was unknown this morning, according to Kennedy.

The Lafayette County Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene to help with extrication. On arrival, firefighters also extinguished a small fire in the second vehicle’s engine.
