The Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office in Jackson has determined that Kenneth I. Roberson, owner of Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home in Pontotoc, was killed by a gunshot wound to the head, according to Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy.

“The pathologist confirmed the Oxford Police Department and the Coroner’s Office ruling that this is a homicide investigation,” Kennedy said this morning.

Roberson, 52, was found dead in his Oxford home at 1:35 a.m. Saturday by OPD officers who went to the home to check on Roberson’s well-being after a family member contacted the police department.

Roberson’s vehicle was taken from the residence and OPD put out a B.O.L.O (be on the lookout) for a gray 2013 Jeep Cherokee on Monday afternoon. This morning, OPD Chief Joey East said the Jeep was recovered in Canton Tuesday night after a call came through Crimestoppers. The vehicle was towed back to Oxford and investigators are processing it today for evidence, East said. No one was in the vehicle when it was recovered.

Roberson’s home continues to have a strong police presence with OPD officers keeping post around the clock. The home is still blocked off with crime tape.

“The home is still in our custody and will be released when we are through processing it for evidence,” East said.

No arrests have been made as of this morning.

Funeral services for Roberson will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Macedonia M.B. Church in Brookhaven with burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
