Oxford aldermen Jay Hughes will be wearing a new hat come January after winning the House of Representative District 12 election Tuesday night.

Hughes ousted incumbent Brad Mayor with more than 55 percent of the vote. Mayo took 45 percent.

A special election will be held at some time to replace Hughes as aldermen.

Hughes said he was honored and grateful to the voters. Mayo wished Hughes good luck in the future.
