Bramlett Elementary Librarian Laura Jackson said, “Promoting literacy in the home is a major component of having a book fair.”

Jackson said the funds raised go to the library fund. The money is then used to buy books, reading incentives and materials that support the curriculum and library program.

The book fair has been an annual event for Bramlett for close to 15 years. Even now, the book fair does not have a selling goal. The main component is just getting books into the hands of students.

Parents, grandparents and friends of the school students are welcome to shop for literary finds and literary-related merchandise during the book fair each afternoon.

“We just want to provide an opportunity for families to interact with books and reading,” Jackson said.

She said the benefits of buying books at school is that community members are supporting education and interacting with friends and families as well as supporting literacy.

Jackson said parents can be involved directly or indirectly in choosing books to have in the home for pleasure reading. This book fair is an opportunity for parents to do either.

“Children are so excited to own books that they can keep at home and enjoy with their family,” Jackson said.
