Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi has been awarded an “A” patient safety rating in the Fall 2015 Hospital Safety Score by a national patient safety watchdog group.

The latest “A” rating is an improvement from the previous “B” rating, placing the hospital in the top five percent of hospitals graded across the United States.

The Leapfrog Group grades more than 2,500 hospitals across the United States for safety twice each year. Hospitals are given a letter grade of “A” through “D” and “F”. Of the 33 hospitals in Mississippi submitting data for the fall reporting period, only five received an “A” rating.

The safety score reflects how well the hospital protects patients from preventable medical errors, injuries and infections within the hospital and is calculated based on several core measures, including safe practice measures, surgical care improvement project measures and patient safety indicators.

“One of our top priorities is patient safety, and I’m extremely proud of each and every one of our employees, physicians, and clinicians who continue to uphold this as a very high standard throughout our facility,” said Bill Henning, CEO and Administrator of Baptist North Mississippi.

Baptist North Mississippi is a 217-bed hospital that offers a variety of services, including cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, the Baptist Cancer Center and a 24-hour emergency room. Since the hospital became affiliated with Baptist Memorial Health Care in 1989, Baptist has invested more than $140 million into the facility. In 2012, Baptist announced plans for building a new hospital for Baptist North Mississippi.
