OXFORD — Byron Lorenzo Austin Jr., 75, of Oxford died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford. The funeral service were held Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with his cousin, the Rev. Ken White officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was held prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Born in Toccopola, he was retired from Neel–Schaffer Engineering where he worked as a Civil Engineer. He attended First Baptist Church, Oxford, was a 3rd degree Master Mason and an Ole Miss football fan. He was a former, avid spelunker and a member of the “TAG” (TN, AL, GA) Spelunking group. He enjoyed genealogy and traveling to document cemetery information. He never met a stranger or an animal that he couldn’t find common ground. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served as a Senior Airman First Class.

His survivors include his wife of 54 years, Rosemary Austin of Oxford; daughter, Suzanne Walker of Stevensville, Michigan; three sons, Joseph Austin of Canton, Paul Austin of Oxford and David Austin of Huntsville, Alabama; and 15 grandchildren.
