OXFORD — Cynthia “Cindy” Bess Lucas, 59, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, at her home in Oxford. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Oxford-University Methodist Church with the Rev. Eddie Restor and her brother-in-law, Bro. Geno Lucas, officiating. Visitation will be from noon until service time Wednesday at the church. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Clovis, New Mexico, she was a devoted homemaker who took great pleasure in her family. In addition, she was a second mother to her sister-in-law, Carole Lucas, who created a lifelong passion in her for caring for the handicapped and under privileged. This passion led to her serving as the former president of the Mustard Seed, a home for the developmentally disabled in Brandon, where she helped start the ceramics program. She was a board member of Outcomes, Inc. in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where she fostered a number of handicapped children and took in many others who were in need of a loving home. She was a member of Galloway Methodist Church in Jackson.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, George Lowrey Lucas; daughter, Joan Lucas of Starkville; son, Gill Lucas of Starkville; her mother, Corrie Smith of Madison; four sisters, Pamela Robinson, Tona Becker, Ty Gould and Fleta Sperling; three grandchildren a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made the Mustard Seed Home in Brandon or the Palmer Home in Columbus.
