A Christmas thanks to veterans

Published 12:00 pm Wednesday, December 9, 2015

We often only take a couple of times out of the year, Memorial Day and Veterans Day, to show our acknowledgement or appreciation to our veterans.

Do we think at Christmas time about the sacrifices that all military and their families give to let us enjoy all the freedoms we have? Our country is strong, founded on Christian beliefs and a strong, diligent military.

I served in Vietnam as a combat infantryman and was very proud to have served our country. I continued after my years in the Army to serve in the National Guard. I have a deep appreciation for our veterans and their families. I want to take this time as post commander of the Oxford Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3978 to say “Merry Christmas” to all veterans and their families. All veterans need to band together community wise and help those veterans and their families who are less fortunate.  The moral fiber of our nation is under attack.
