The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department arrested a local man Sunday after he allegedly led law enforcement on a chase in the western part of the county.

Investigator Alan Wilburn said the LCSD received a call from the Oxford Police Department at about 4:33 p.m. Sunday requesting help in a chase that started inside the city limits on Highway 6 West; however, the driver, later identified as Charles E. “Bubba” Pomerlee, 42, of Lafayette County, continued to travel into the county after failing to pull over for city police. The chase ended on County Road 158.

Wilburn said the chase ended without further incident.

“His car may have stopped, run out of gas maybe, but he just pulled over finally,” Wilburn said.

No one was injured during the chase.

Pomerlee was charged with felony fleeing, reckless driving, possession of crack and marijuana with intent to distribute. He was taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was booked on no bond, pending his first appearance hearing later today.
