Audley Harold Brummett

OXFORD — Audley Harold Brummett, 93, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at his home in Oxford. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. David Ard officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Lafayette County, he served 34 years as a lineman for North East Mississippi Electric Power Association and retired in 1984 as a supervisor. He was awarded a lifesaving medal from Northeast Mississippi Electric Power Association for saving a lineman, Ray Winters, who was injured on the job. He served in the United States Army during World War II in A Company, 137th Infantry Regiment of the 35th Infantry Division achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart and a member of the Purple Heart Association and the Battle of the Bulge Association.

He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

He loved to provide for his family with a large garden. Some of his favorite past times included grabbling for fish and hunting for deer and quail. He loved to hunt with his pointers, sons and grandsons. In his later years he found great joy in tending to his animals and spending time with his grands, great- grands and great-great grands as they grew up.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Marie Gant Brummett, a son, Harold Reid Brummett, a brother, W.L. Brummett, and a sister, Lucille Gaines.

He is survived by his two daughters, Genell Caldwell and Glendell Williams, both of Thaxton; a son, Harold Brummett of Oxford; a sister, Hazel McNeely of Oxford; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
