JACKSON — Sen. Gray Tollison was selected to a second four-year term on the Senate Rules Committee, which governs operations of the chamber, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said Tuesday.

Senators from the First Congressional District chose the Oxford Republican to represent the area.

“Sen. Tollison has been a key leader in the Senate and helped lead more investment in education and reforms that will raise student achievement in Mississippi,” said Lt. Gov. Reeves.

The Rules Committee is comprised of four members representing each congressional district and is chaired by the Senate President Pro Tempore. The Rules Committee authorizes resolutions recognizing Mississippians, establishes guidelines for the legislative process and manages daily operations of Senate staff.

“The Rules Committee plays a vital role in managing how bills become law and leading the operations of the state Senate,” said Tollison. “This selection by my peers will be a valuable way to represent the interests of the people of North Mississippi.”

Tollison, an attorney, has represented District 9, which includes Lafayette and Panola counties, since 1996. Over the past four years, he has served as chairman of the education committee.

He also has served on the public health and welfare, finance and judiciary B committees.
