COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Ole Miss women’s basketball team (9-8, 1-3 SEC) rallied in the second half, but couldn’t overcome a cold shooting night, dropping a 81-58 contest to No. 15 Texas A&M in College Station on Thursday night.

Freshman Madinah Muhammad led the Ole Miss offense with a career-best 21 points with 18 of those points coming in the second half. Shandricka Sessom was back in double figures after being held to single digits the last two games with 13 points while leading the way on the glass with four rebounds.

Ole Miss came out with renewed energy on the defensive end in the third quarter and was helped by the play of Bretta Hart. The reserve started the third quarter and had several big rebounds and end the game with six points and three rebounds. The Rebels shot much better in the second half, going 14-of-31 but they couldn’t over come a game-high 29 points from Chelsea Jennings and a 61.5 percent shooting night from the Aggies.

The home team jumped out to a 6-0 lead before a bucket from Sessom stopped the run at the 8;19 mark, Sessom had all of Ole Miss’ points before buckets from Muhammad and Torri Lewis. The Rebels had a hard time stopping, Texas A&M’s Chelsea Jennings who had 10 points in the first quarter and led all scorers at halftime with 14 points The Aggies opened the second quarter with four straight points forcing Ole Miss head coach Matt Insell to call a timeout early. The Rebels couldn’t get any offense going and shot just 26.9 percent from the floor (7-of-26) in the first half and trailed 40-18 at halftime.

The Rebels will stay on the road and travel to Starkville for a matchup with No. 6/7 Mississippi State on Monday night. The Rebels and Bulldogs tipo ff at 6 p.m. on the SEC Network with former Rebel head coach and player Carol Ross and Brenda VanLengen on the call.
