Born in Lafayette County, he had lived most of his life in this area. He worked for many years as an auto parts salesman and had operated several businesses. The Golden Shaft was a business he owned in Oxford where he taught archery and also had owned an archery range in Ripley. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing. Having a loving, kind and forgiving nature, he never met a stranger. Spending time with his wife and family, who he loved very much, gave him much pleasure. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by stepson Jeff Keel.
