Some people live their lives boisterously. Their names are remembered long after they’re gone because of grand acts.

Yet some people are remembered for how they graciously, quietly and honestly made an impression on those around them.

Al and Becky Moreton were remembered Monday in a way most befitting the couple.

Prior to their graveside service, 121 people gathered at the Oxford-University United Methodist Church and walked through the downtown Square to the Oxford Memorial Cemetery for their interment. Their two children carried their ashes during the walk.

Some talked about their memories of the couple. Others joked that if Becky saw that broken area of the sidewalk she’d be on the phone with the mayor immediately.

Becky was a member of the Oxford Pathways Commission and a champion to keep Oxford a place everyone could enjoy safely, especially those on foot.

Monday evening the commission discussed ways to remember Becky and her work in Oxford. While no final ideas were decided, we commend the commission for making it a priority and while we know whatever is named after Becky, it will never replace the two missing bricks of Oxford’s foundation.
