Sue Gamble Woodward

RIDGELAND — Sue Gamble “Polly” Woodward, 86, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at The Orchard Nursing Home in Ridgeland, due to complications from a stroke suffered in 2007. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2 p.m. until service time at Waller Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, she attended the University of Mississippi and graduated with a master’s degree in education. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and quilting. She had a variety of hobbies and interests. She enjoyed the many years she spent overseas with her husband, Red Woodward, until he retired in 1985, and they moved back to his home in Oxford. She found great pleasure in quilting and was active in the Oxford Garden Club until her health deteriorated.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William P. “Red” Woodward in 2006.

She is survived by her four children, Suzanne Horner of Port Aransas, Texas, Gwynne Guinn of Portland, Oregon, Wendy Beard of Jackson and Phillip Woodward of Sacramento, California, as well as 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
