Emma Joe White Gamble

DeLAND, Florida — Emma Joe White Gamble, 96, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at her daughter’s home in DeLand, Florida. She will be buried beside her husband of 64 years, Ellis “Bill” Gamble, in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Oxford with the Rev. Tom Elkin officiating. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Clarksdale, she lived in Memphis, Tennessee, where she graduated from Central High School before moving to Ocean Springs where she resided for 42 years. She and her husband owned and operated Gamble’s Town and Country Store in Ocean Springs where she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and volunteered with the hospital auxiliary for more than 20 years. She was a lifetime member of the Adah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed growing flowers, feeding and watching birds, sending greeting cards and working word puzzles.

She is survived by her son, William E. “Bill” Gamble of Jackson and daughter, Margaret J. “Peggy” Gamble of DeLand, Florida.
