Errol Robinson has been racking up preseason awards for the past month, and he can add another to his list.

The Rebels’ shortstop was named to the preseason All-SEC second team Thursday as announced by the league office.

The 14 SEC coaches voted on the All-SEC teams as well as predictions for each divisional champion.

Robinson will be the most experienced Rebel on the field when the season begins today against Florida International (4 p.m., SECN+). The Maryland native has started 124 games at shortstop.

His experience and productivity in the field and at the plate has brought attention to him on a national stage. D1baseball.com has the junior ranked No. 1 on its top 50 shortstops list and he also earned All-America honors from Baseball America.

Major League Baseball scouts tabbed Robinson as the top player at his position heading into the 2016 season, which put him as a first-team member of Baseball America’s preseason All-America team.

“Last year didn’t end the way we wanted it to,” Robinson said. “Getting booted after two games in a regional is not what any team wants. I think coming back this year we still feel the fire from losing so early in the regional. I feel like that is fueling us to be better this year.”

Rebels selected fifth
The SEC coaches voted Ole Miss to finish fifth in the Western Division. Texas A&M was voted to win the West. Florida was picked to win the East as well as the SEC Championship.
