The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man this evening who they claim was involved in a shooting outside of the Popular Trends store off County Road 334 earlier today.

Investigator Alan Wilburn said a call came into the sheriff’s department at 12:40 this afternoon reporting a shooting. When Wilburn arrived, the alleged victim had already been taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi by a witness. The victim was interviewed at the hospital and told investigators he was shot by Robert Houston.

Houston, 27, of Oxford was picked up without incident at about 5:15 p.m. and taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he will be held until his first appearance bond hearing on Wednesday.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was discharged from the hospital this afternoon.

The case is still under investigation and no motive was given for the shooting.
