University of Mississippi student Lovetta Oguhebe is using her past to have a positive impact on campus now — through makeup.

The 23-year-old Oguhebe, who is originally from Nigeria, is the owner of 2FaceBeauty Makeup, a business that came out of an abusive marriage and her discovery of self-worth.

“It was makeup that really helped me understand myself in a more dimensional way,” the communication science and disorders major said. “It was really what gave me the gas to leave.”

Oguhebe said she rarely wore makeup before, but over the course of her marriage, which lasted over a year, she began by using it to cover up bruises.

YouTube makeup tutorials helped her learn how to hone professional techniques and enhance her look.

A beauty mentor

When Oguhebe put makeup on and felt truly beautiful, it made her realize that she could feel like that more often and have a better life.

One day, Oguhebe wants to start her own cosmetic and skin care line. For now, she does makeup for others using drug store and designer brands. She tries to go the extra mile and not just help someone put on their makeup, but also teaches young women how to do it themselves by giving them tips and tricks.

Oguhebe said she could see herself being a motivational speaker as a possibility one day because she loves the chance to encourage others. She especially enjoys being a beauty mentor to other students.

“I feel like this is the perfect outlet,” Oguhebe said.

Oguhebe charges $35 per student for a full-face makeup. Regular price is $50 and $70 for events such as prom, formals, weddings and more.

After two years in the makeup world, Oguhebe is now promoting herself and her services across campus and in Oxford.

To kick off her business, she is hosting Cocktails and Contour on April 12 at the Ole Miss Student Union from 6 until 10 p.m. The event is open to all interested and tickets are $25.

The event is a mixer for students who are interested in 2FaceBeauty Makeup service, learning how to apply makeup and boosting their self-esteem by learning how to best present themselves as women.

“I want it to be the celebration of women,” Oguhebe said.
