Dr. Margie Johnson Hobbs

OXFORD – Dr. Margie Johnson Hobbs, 72, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Coleman Funeral Home with Bro. Ken Hanks officiating. Interment will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Visitation will be held today from 5-7 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Known for her kind and loving spirit, she retired from the state of Tennessee after 34 years as a teacher. She was a professor at the University of Mississippi for 12 years where she was responsible for the ongoing accreditation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools at Ole Miss. She enjoyed gardening, canning preserves, crocheting, tatting, knitting, traveling, her Sunday school class and tutoring and mentoring young minds. Most of all, she took pleasure in spending time with her family and was known for her kind and loving spirit.

She is survived by her husband Allen B. Hobbs of Oxford; daughter Holly M. Hobbs of San Francisco, California; sister Docie Johnson of Sheridan, Arkansas; brothers Rubin Johnson of Oakland, and Bill Johnson and Byron Johnson, both of Texarkana, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Ann Phillips, 18 County Road 251, Oxford, MS 38655.
