High volume of scams reported in county

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department has been experiencing a high volume of scam reports recently, according to Alan Wilburn, chief investigator. The callers are telling would-be victims they are with the sheriff’s department or other local law enforcement agencies and asking for money. The sheriff’s department does not solicit money over the phone. Wilburn warns against giving out credit card information and personal information to callers. Using a prepaid debit card is often how a scammer asks for payment. If anyone believes they have been a victim of a scam, contact the sheriff’s department at 662-234-6421.
