Oxford and Lafayette County are growing by leaps and bounds, which affects everything we can think of and especially our infrastructure.

One component of our infrastructure we take for granted daily is our electricity. We don’t really think or care too much about how it gets to us, but we expect for that air conditioner to turn on and sure need that light on when brushing our teeth.

The entities that bring us power, Tennessee Valley Authority, North East Power and the city of Oxford Electric Department know that and have slated April 11 to begin work on the Oxford Substation on Old Taylor Road. This work will involve an upgrade to some equipment and changing up the way things are connected so that when either North East or the city needs to work on a part, they aren’t reliant on the other agency.

This work also will accommodate the new Baptist Hospital and help with growth in the county along Highway 7, an area ripe for development.

If a car hits a pole or lightning takes out a line during the week they are working, it may take longer than usual to restore power. Be patient with the agencies during this time, because the week of work will benefit everyone greatly in the long run.
