IPF opens at FNC Park

Oxford now has its own little IPF.

The indoor practice facility was featured at a grand opening ceremony Friday after almost two years of planning and building.

The facility has six retractable batting cages, protective wall padding and is covered in field turf. The city and county have chipped in about $150,000 and a $150,000 donation from Oxford Orthopaedics Group ensured the facility also has office space, bathrooms and a spectator area.

Work can begin on Cedar Oaks

Cedar Oaks officially became city property Tuesday afternoon and long-awaited repairs and marketing plans are now in the works.

The Oxford Board of Aldermen allotted $18,000 from the city’s tourism fund to begin repairs in the kitchen, install a new hot water heater, add paint and wallpaper and take care of other minor repairs.

The influx of cash will help turn the home into a venue for weddings, parties and other events.

Food Network show to feature Oxford-area restaurants

Food Network’s “The Best Of” invaded the tiny village of 288 residents over the weekend, featuring one of its finest gems, Taylor Grocery.

Each episode is 30 minutes and features five locations.

Taylor Grocery wasn’t the only one in the spotlight. Also featured were Ajax Diner, Bottletree Bakery and City Grocery.

After filming in Oxford, the crew headed to Starkville and Columbus.

Employees get more money

City employees came out in force to Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting for some good news.

The board approved giving city employees an additional $600 for the fiscal year, which equates to $100 a month.

The amount had been debated after officials had decided to give a smaller portion at a previous meeting, and employees expressed displeasure.

Success or failure of Oxford Resort will be decided at Monday meeting

The fate of Oxford Resort will be decided at a meeting next Monday.

The resort, conceived as a civic project intended to promote Oxford as a tourist destination, is the largest civic undertaking ever attempted by a local club.

The Jaycees purchased a large amount of stock in the operation. A meeting will determine if the work can be done with the amount of stock purchased or if the money needs to be given back.
