Gerald Ordway Hankins

OXFORD — Gerald Ordway Hankins, 69, died Saturday, April 9, 2016, at his home in Abbeville. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Abbeville with Bro. Randy Hope officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until service time at the church. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Henning, Tennessee, he had lived in this area most of his life. He was a retired carpenter and logger. A veteran of the United States Army, he served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting and fishing, but enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Tommy Hankins and sisters Carole Bensch and Dorothy Crowder.

He is survived by daughter Jennifer Thomas of Como; sons Henry Hankins and Gerald D. Hankins, both of Abbeville, and Thomas Pietschman of Ramore, Missouri; brothers Ricky Hankins, Bobby Hankins and Byron Hankins, all of Abbeville; and sisters Anita Moore of Abbeville and Linda Moore of Golden Valley, Arizona.
