SENATOBIA — Mavis McMurray Smith, 87, formerly of Water Valley, died Wednesday, Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Senatobia Convalescent Center in Senatobia. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. James West officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Crest Memorial Garden Cemetery in Yalobusha County. Visitation will be held today from 1 p.m. until service time at Seven Oaks Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Franklin County, Alabama, she was an RN and retired from St. Joseph Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Her retirement was short-lived as she moved to Water Valley and resumed her nursing career at Yalobusha General Hosptial where she worked until the age of 73. She was an active member of Sylva Rena Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Smith Sr.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Fay Reeder of Cordova, Tennessee and Sherilyn Kay Broome of Memphis, Tennessee; son James Ray Smith Jr. of Coldwater; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
