Chargers roll Center Hill in 5A playoffs

The Oxford High tennis team’s bid for a ninth straight MHSAA Class 5A state championship didn’t face any resistance Monday.

The Chargers (15-0, 19-4 in all formats) traveled to Center Hill and clinched their latest berth in the North Half finals with a 7-0 win. Oxford will play for another trip to the state championships Monday at 4 p.m. against either Grenada or Lewisburg.

Grace Anne Jones started the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Mikayla Coleman in girls singles while Bo Nash claimed the boys singles point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Donavan Sharp. McClellan Davis and Sarah Nash earned the point at No. 1 girls doubles with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Amanda Lowery and Anne Hardy won 6-0, 6-1 to take the point at No. 2 doubles.

Will Swindoll and Gus Morgan claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win in boys No. 1 doubles while Gordon Whitwell and Ryan Mounce notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory for the No. 2 doubles point. Chris Le and Abbie Vaughn won 6-0, 6-0 in mixed doubles.
