NATCHEZ – Arthur Dale McCary, 92, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016. Funeral services were Monday at 12 p.m. at Jefferson Street United Methodist Church in Natchez. Visitation was 11 a.m. until service time at the church.

Born in Baldwyn, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, receiving the Philippine Liberation Medal, Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Victory Medal. After the war he received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, masters degree from Mississippi State University and doctorate degree from the University of Mississippi. He served as Dean at Northeast Mississippi Community College and later became Director of Institutional Research at the University of Mississippi. He was also a professor of mathematics.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers William McCary and James McCary, and sister Carol Holley.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara Fugitt McCary; son Tim McCary; sister Sara Jane Morris; and one granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to the Natchez Adams County Humane Society or Jefferson Street United Methodist Church.
