Oxford High School’s Envirothon team has competed successfully all the way up to the national level.

Over the weekend the team competed at the state level against 19 other teams and took first place. It is now preparing for a six-day national competition in Ontario, Canada.

Envirothon is a hands-on program brought into the schools thanks to the Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts. Volunteers and environment personnel work with high school-age students to teach them environmental insights and natural resource management.    

“This year’s State Envirothon was one of the best we’ve ever had, and the hard work of the teams was reflected in the scores,” Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission Executive Director Mark Gilbert said. “We’re very excited about Oxford High School going to the North American Competition in Canada.”
