The Mississippi Beta chapter of Pi Beta Phi at Ole Miss recently presented the Lafayette County Literacy Council (LCLC) with a donation of over $6,300 to use toward its literacy programs.

“We are so fortunate to have a nonprofit which also aims to raise money and awareness for childhood literacy right here in Oxford,” said Virginia Summer, vice president of philanthropy of Pi Beta Phi Mississippi Beta. “The Lafayette County Literacy Council has not only given our girls a greater opportunity to expand on our philanthropy, but also has given our girls the chance to touch the lives and be touched by the lives of the children right here in Oxford through the gift of literacy.”

The donation comes from the the Pi Beta Phi Foundation’s Local Impact Grant Program, where undergraduate chapters can nominate local nonprofit organizations to receive gifted funds and the Foundation will provide a matching donation. The Mississippi Beta chapter at Ole Miss and the Pi Beta Phi Foundation contributed over $3,100 each toward the Lafayette County Literacy Council.
