Field trips just one education grant away

It’s time for teachers and administrators or whoever wants to help out to put some pencil to paper and write a grant so children can enjoy a field trip or two next school year.

The Mississippi Hills National Heritage Alliance has $50,000 available in grant funds for education that is strictly for school field trips in the 2016-2017 school year. They’re available to all school districts, school support groups and nonprofit/heritage groups within the 19-county area district, which includes Lafayette and most of Yalobusha counties.

Requests of up to $1,000 per trip will be considered and multiple trips can be requested in the same application. The funds can be used for educational field trip transportation and interpretation costs only.

Lafayette County recently received allocations from the MHNHA and we hope there is more good news to come about more local entities taking advantage of the  program. With this grant cycle set for May 1 through June 30, there’s time for teachers to come up with a neat field trip idea and write away.
