Special LHS graduate makes mark

Awards were handed out and diplomas were eagerly received with handshakes on Friday night for Lafayette High School’s graduation, but there was one extra special recognition that stood out.

Air Force JROTC Cadet Brelynn Hudgins received a very rarely given Silver Medal of Valor for his heroic efforts this spring. He was driving home and came upon a car that had crashed and was smoking. He pulled an unconscious man from the vehicle and performed first aid until medics could arrive.

Lafayette County is extremely blessed to benefit from a young man of his substance. Not many people these days would go to the lengths he did in a time of need. The Air Force knows that too, and the award Hudgins received is the second highest award given nationwide.

We hope you continue to make a mark on your next journey in life, Cadet Hudgins, and all the best wishes to you and your classmates from the Class of 2016.
