On Monday, investigators with the Oxford Police Department arrested a North Carolina man for driving while under the influence of alcohol and being involved in a vehicle wreck.

According to reports, Colby Virtue, 23, was traveling the wrong way — going westbound in the eastbound lane on Highway 6 — near Waller Funeral Home when he crashed into another vehicle that was occupied by five people.

Some of the people in the vehicle suffered serious, but nonlife-threatening injuries. Police said an investigation on scene showed that Virtue was under the influence. He was charged with aggravated DUI, no liability insurance and driving on the wrong side of the road. He was taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was booked on a $2,500 bond.
