Oxford school officials will soon mail letters, which contain important registration information for the upcoming school year, to the homes of returning Oxford School District students.

Returning students are students who attended school in the Oxford School District at the end of the 2015-2016 school year.

The letter contains the student’s snapcode — a required registration code for returning students and necessary for a parent to have in order to complete the child’s required online student registration process.

Online student registration for all students — returning students and students new to the school district — is now open at www.oxfordsd.org/registration. At this time, new students — students who did not attend school in the Oxford School District at the end of the 2015-2016 school year — can also register online for the 2016-2017 school year. New students do not receive snapcodes as part of their online student registration process.

If a returning student does not receive his or her specific letter with the snapcode in the mail by Friday, parents are encouraged to call the OSD Student Registration Office at 662-513-8111.

School officials also encourage returning students who are entering grades kindergarten through second who have not completed their online registration process to do so when online registration opens Monday, June 13.

School officials say online student registration is just the first step for the student registration process and is necessary before parents drop off required registration documents. The district’s student registration process includes two simple, but required steps — completing a child’s online registration through the OSD website and delivering up-to-date registration documents to school officials.

Required documents

School officials use required registration documents to verify whether or not a child lives within the Oxford School District.

According to OSD Student Registration Director SuzAnne Liddell, parents need to make sure that required documents are gathered and the correct, up-to-date documents are in place before dropping them off with the district.

“A parent can complete the online registration, but if we do not have a child’s required registration documents, then they are not considered enrolled for the upcoming school year,” Liddell said.

Required registration documents vary depending on which grade a child is entering. For example, only incoming kindergarten students must provide an original birth certificate, and only incoming seventh-graders must have their Tdap vaccination verified before starting school this fall. A complete list of required registration documents are listed online at www.oxfordsd.org/registration.

New drop off process

This year, the district has put a new document drop-off process in place for parents and families that will make the process of delivering required registration documents much easier for families.

Documents will be dropped off with school officials on specific dates based on the student’s last name. During registration drop-off, parents will drop off documents in one spot, the OSD Student Registration Office located at 409 Washington Ave. in Oxford. School officials will accept documents each registration drop-off day from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The following registration document drop-off dates are set for students whose last name starts with the following letters:

— Letters A-E Thursday, July 14

— Letters F-K Friday, July 15

— Letters L-P Wednesday, July 20

— Letters Q-U Thursday, July 21

— Letters V-Z Friday, July 22

“Families with children who have multiple last names can come on the date that works best for the family,” Liddell said. “Also, no scheduled appointments will be made during the document drop-off dates and there will be no make-up days for documents to be delivered.”
