Leap Frog is a program that benefits dozens of children in Oxford and Lafayette County, and in turn benefits the tutors who are making the world a better place.

This week’s news that the Oxford School District will share space with Leap Frog is an example of a great partnership between a public entity and a nonprofit.

Leap Frog will be headquartered at the central office for the district on Washington Avenue. There will be enough space for children and volunteers to all be in the same spot and logistic challenges will dissolve. Six classrooms will give a place for Leap Frog to store office and educational supplies.

For the past 25 years Leap Frog has been helping students in first through third grades get above the reading curve that is crucial for lifelong learning. Right now the group helps 140 children. OSD Superintendent Brian Harvey said the partnership was a “necessary investment” for the community.

This is just another example of how Oxford and Lafayette County are known for a quality education. Opening doors and ensuring entities like Leap Frog can have a strong and viable presence will benefit the community for years to come.
