Oxford Writes to host event at Shelter

The first workshop of Oxford Writes on April 2 proved to be a successful start for the new venture for writers and those thinking about becoming a writer.

Now Oxford Writes is ready for its second event.

And while the Tuesday “Oxford Writes Night” at Shelter on Van Buren won’t be as large a production as the first one, founder Jeff Roberson wants these periodic events to be as much a part of what Oxford Writes is all about as the larger workshops in its future.

“We want Oxford Writes to become a visible and important part of the Oxford community in a number of ways,” Roberson said. “Having local events like an Oxford Writes Night is one way we are excited to accomplish this.”

Local author David Waddell, a member of the Oxford Writes board, will talk about his books and also about self-publishing.

David Vicchiollo, a local songwriter and musician, will talk about the craft of songwriting as well as his business venture called DVIC Music. And he will also perform some of his music.

Both Waddell and Vicchiollo are a part of the Oxford “writing” community. Oxford Writes includes many aspects of the art of writing into its activities.

“Book writing and songwriting are two of the areas we are excited to present as a part of our mission,” Roberson said. “David and David are looking forward to talking to those who gather on June 28 at Shelter about what it is they do and how others can also do what they do. Oxford Writes is all about mentoring, sharing and creating.”

The event is free and Shelter will have its regular evening offerings for those who attend to purchase.

The first “Oxford Writes Night” is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. with a mix and mingle, followed by the program at 7 p.m.
