Area teams set for NEMCABB title rounds

After two days of regional pool play, it’s win or go home for area baseball teams in the annual NEMCABB summer tournament.

The single-elimination rounds will begin Monday at the New Albany Sportsplex with Lafayette getting started early. The Commodores will take on Region 6 runner-up Calhoun City at 10 a.m. in their first tournament game. Previously scheduled games in Biloxi kept Lafayette from playing in its four-team regional tournament last week, automatically making the Commodores the No. 4 seed out of Region 4.

Oxford went unbeaten in the Region 8 tournament last week in Grenada, knocking off the host Chargers and Water Valley and tying South Panola to earn the region’s top seed and a bye. Oxford will await the winner of Lafayette and Calhoun City on Tuesday at noon.

Water Valley, the No. 4 seed out of Region 8, will start the single-elimination rounds against Region 7 runner-up Amory at 6 p.m. Monday. The Blue Devils went 0-3 in the regional.

The teams that advance to the championship game will decide if they want to play the game Wednesday at 6 p.m. or Thursday. The tournament is sponsored by NEMCABB, the Northeast Mississippi Coaches Association for Better Baseball.
