The Rio Olympics 2016 are this summer, which means the Opening Ceremony isn’t far away.

What: Rio (Brazil) Olympics 2016

When: Olympics Opening Ceremony 2016 is August 5, 2016 (technically the games begin two days earlier with women’s soccer.) The games conclude August 21, 2016.

Opening Ceremony 2016 time: It will air live at 6 p.m. central (Brazil time is two hours ahead of central time) on August 5, 2016.

Where: Maracana Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

TV channel: NBC (other networks affiliated with NBC’s broadcast)

This will be the most broadcast Olympics ever, between TV and digital platforms. Most nights in primetime you can expect coverage to begin at 7 p.m. central on NBC.

The games may be good to watch on TV but there are some concerns about how good they will be in person. Brazil and Rio in particular are facing scrutiny of issues faced including underdeveloped facilities, Zika virus, political problems, pollution and more.

“Understandably, every few days now, a call comes for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games to be postponed, cancelled or moved,” writes Christine Brennan in USA Today. “I say understandably because you know things are bad when terrorism, always a haunting threat and sometimes a terrible reality at an Olympic Games, doesn’t even make Rio’s top six.”
