4th of July a success in community

Despite a thunderstorm rolling into Oxford Monday evening drenching some of the events planned for the LOU Fourth of July Celebration, the entire weekend was a success and great fun for our citizens and visiting family members.

A dedicated committee works throughout the year to give Oxonians a Fourth of July that can be enjoyed by our youngest and oldest residents alike and we commend their efforts.

From the Friday night Firecracker Bash, the Saturday night Community Dance, the Fourth of July 5K and Family Fun Run to the wonderful 20-minute firework display, many of the events not only provided a good time to those who attended, they helped support several local charities, including Leap Frog and the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society.

This year’s LOU Fourth of July Celebration committee was made up of several members who donated their time and experience to bring the events to life. Those members included Teresa Adams, Wayne Andrews, Jimmy Allgood, Sarah Brooke Bishop, Gail Brown, Bill DeJournett, Denny Buchannon,  Thelma Curry, Lea Anne Griffin, Dennis Irwin, Katie Kaiser, Allen Kurr, Jeff McCutchen, Ethan Peterson, Brooke Reeves and Pam Swain.

Many of the events could not have been possible without the tireless efforts of several volunteers. We thank Christine Reiner, Tori Marion White, Angie Hankins, Jon and Cherie Maynard, Jimmy, Jennifer, Hayden, Joslin and Madeline Williams, Quentin, Joshua and Hudson Brewer, Raegin Martin, Paula and Mickey Dabbs, Kevin Griffin, Cory, John Pitner and David Doss Swain.

Thank you again for another great celebration from the EAGLE and all of Oxford.
