As law enforcement from around the county are still reeling from shock over last night’s sniper shooting in Dallas that left five police officers dead and seven others wounded, the Oxford Police Department and the University Police Department expressed their sympathy and concern.

“Our hearts are broken for Dallas law enforcement and the community that they served,” said OPD Chief Joey East this morning. “We will continue to pray for all the families that have been affected by the events that have taken place over the last several days.”

“Like everyone else this morning, our hearts are with Dallas and the officers who were wounded and the families of those who lost their lives,” said UPD Chief Tim Potts. “They are certainly in our thoughts and prayers. It’s a tough time in law enforcement.”

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department declined to comment.
