Another unspeakable, unjustified act.

The Baton Rouge police shootings sent yet another wave of shock through our nation just as we were beginning the healing process after the horrible Dallas police shootings.

And now another round of fiery debate erupts in social media that paints a picture of Us. vs. Them. The hateful dialogue is dangerous, and it cannot help but fuel fires burning within troubled souls who actually begin to believe that we are living in a Us vs. Them world within our United States.

So we must remember that our words, even on Facebook, can become the rhetorical actions of others.

We must also remember that we are one nation, and that criminal acts like the Baton Rouge and Dallas police shootings have been carried out by individuals, not groups of individuals.

There is no denying, however, that racial tension in America has risen as a result of this summer’s events. For a nation that has come so far since the segregation era of more than 60 years ago, we are taking steps backward in this summer of senseless killing.

Let’s remember that we are one nation. Let’s also remember that acts of kindness are the most powerful force against prejudice.
