An Ole Miss football player has been suspended from all team activities after being arrested and charged with domestic violence.

Charles Wiley was booked into the Lafayette County Detention Center at 6:15 p.m. Monday by an officer with the Oxford Police Department, according to the jail docket. A female, Legend Fultz, 22, was also booked at the same time on the same charge.

Wiley, a freshman defensive end, was released on bail at 11:08 Tuesday morning, according to jail records. He is scheduled to appear in municipal court on Aug. 24.

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement that Wiley, 18, will not take part in anything football-related while the legal process takes its course.

“We are aware of the situation and recognize the proper authorities are responsible for the matter,” Freeze said. “Charles is being withheld from all team activities while the process moves forward. We take incidents like this very seriously and will make decisions once the course of action is complete.”

According to an incident report obtained by the EAGLE on Wednesday, officer James Jenkins responded to a 911 call about a disturbance at 709 McClarty Road at 5:12 p.m. Monday. Fultz, Wiley and fellow Ole Miss players Kendarius Webster and Victor Evans were all at the residence upon Jenkins’ arrival, according to the report, before Fultz and Wiley were arrested for domestic violence simple assault, a misdemeanor.

No other details about the incident were listed in the report.

The 6-foot-2, 253-pound Wiley was a consensus four-star prospect coming out of Stockbridge High (Georgia). He enrolled early and often drew praise from coaches this spring as a standout among the newcomers with his quickness and athleticism, though he could still be in line for a redshirt.

Marquis Haynes, Fadol Brown, John Youngblood and Victor Evans are listed as the top defensive ends on the Rebels’ preseason depth chart.

Players report for fall camp on Aug. 7. Ole Miss will start practice the following day.
