The summer goes so quickly.

Well, it is still technically summer season, but the arrival of August means considerable change for the Oxford community.

Lafayette County Schools begin this week. Oxford City Schools begin early next week. And already, Ole Miss students who  signed August leases have been seen scurrying back around the city, moving in and getting ready for a new school year.

This year will be more challenging than ever before in terms of busy roads. With each passing year Oxford and Lafayette County get more residents and Ole Miss continues bursting at the seams in popularity and growth.

So our lazy days of summer and easy driving along key paths like Jackson Avenue and University Avenue will come to an end. But this is Oxford’s time to shine.

It is what our city was built for. Ole Miss students are our lifeblood, and our engine of growth can’t be stopped even if we tried.

So let’s celebrate the beginning of a new school season, and do what Oxford residents know how to do: avoid Jackson Avenue and University Avenue at peak times.
